Jesse Iwuji (USNA ’10) is a native Texan from a football family who was recruited to play football at the U.S. Naval Academy and kept in shape off-season running track & field. So naturally, during his senior year at the Naval Academy, Jesse took up drag racing.
Jesse got his racing start at Capitol Speedway in Crofton, Maryland, driving a Chrysler 300. He upgraded to a Dodge Challenger on graduation from the Naval Academy as a Surface Warfare Officer. Four years later, with a couple of Persian Gulf deployments under his belt, Jesse upgraded his Challenger to 1,100hp and ran the Mojave Mile speed trial, becoming the fifth modern Mopar driver to break 200mph in that event. In 2015 Jesse made gearhead history, becoming the first active-duty US Naval Officer to compete in NASCAR.
Jesse transitioned into the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and completed the next two seasons with Patriot Motorsports Group, finishing his sophomore NASCAR season in 14th place out of of 65 drivers. He’s been featured twice in Hot Rod Magazine and once on the cover of MoparMax magazine, and has also starred in nationally-distributed TV shows. Jesse managed most of this on active duty: he transitioned to the Navy Reserve in 2017, and now races NASCAR full-time.
This week, Jesse Iwuji is going to teach his fellow RINGKNOCKERs a thing or two about speed… so GET READY TO LISTEN FAST!
