RINGKNOCKER Virtual Meetup #33 with Ray Garfield
The guest speaker at this week’s RINGKNOCKER Virtual Meetup is Ray Garfield (USNA ’66).
Ray is a former Naval Aviator who has the distinction of having worked closely with tech giant H. Ross Perot during the early days of EDS. We heard some of those stories at an earlier Meetup, and, trust me: you wish you were there!
Currently, Ray is Chairman of Garfield Public/Private LLC (GPP) and is an accomplished leader in the finance and development of essential facilities for municipalities and other public sector entities. With an extensive Wall Street background, he focuses primarily on working with investment banking partners as well as bond and underwriter’s counsels to engineer creative financing structures to secure capital for essential public/private developments.
Ray founded GPP in 1997 to finance and develop publicly owned and public/private facilities. Through 2020, the firm has completed or has under development over $2 billion in public/private facilities, including performing arts centers, convention centers, conference centers and headquarters hotels, justice and public safety facilities, K‐12 and higher education buildings, government office buildings, parking garages, and other vital public infrastructure.
The GPP thesis appears to be that open markets make better decisions than politicians do, and Ray has tested that proposition not once but dozens of times over nearly a quarter-century. This is a fascinating, refreshing idea, and I am excited to hear Ray dig into the topic.
This session promises a neat investment idea for some of us, and a master class in local economics for ALL of us. DON’T MISS IT!
