The guest speaker at this week’s RINGKNOCKER Virtual Meetup is Shaun McAndrew (USNA ’93).
Shaun is a former helicopter pilot who commanded HSM-41 out of NAS North Island. More recently, she served a tour as the First Battalion Officer at the United States Naval Academy. This is the subject of her talk this week.
Those of us who attended service academies had a singularly intense experience. But the very intensity of that experience prevents us from perceiving just how deeply MANAGED that experience is, and just how many people must collaborate to make it so… REAL people, for whom a job at the Naval Academy, whatever else it might be, is a JOB.
Shaun’s thoughtful observations part what she calls “the green curtain”, and allow us to peer with clarity into the guts of the machine that made us. Her experience translates well beyond the walls of the Naval Academy Yard, as leaders at other institutions faced similar problems and (we must imagine!) sometimes had to collaborate to solve them.
This one is a trip through the looking glass. DON’T MISS IT!
