RINGKNOCKER Virtual Meetup #44 with Jon Macaskill
The guest speaker for this week’s RINGKNOCKER Virtual Meetup is Jon Macaskill (USNA ’01).
Jon is a retired Navy SEAL Commander turned mindfulness and meditation teacher. He was born in South Africa and moved with his parents and 4 siblings to the US when he was 7. He grew up in Ruston, Louisiana, where he was an avid track and cross country runner.
Jon got his start in the Navy as an enlisted Aircrew Survival Equipmentman: a Parachute Rigger. After receiving his commission, Jon headed for Coronado Beach and the other end of the parachute, where he served nearly twenty years as a Navy SEAL officer in all the usual vacation spots.
After retiring from the Navy, Jon served as Deputy Executive Director for Veteran’s PATH, a nonprofit organization that works to introduce meditation and mindfulness to veterans to bring them a sense of Peace, Acceptance, Transformation and Honor. He now runs his own consulting company, Macaskill Consulting, LLC, bringing mindfulness and meditation to high performing teams to aid in dealing with stress, anxiety and depression all while increasing focus, creativity, and productivity.
Jon’s wife, Beka, also served in the Navy and is now a civilian Orthopedic Physician Assistant. Together, they are the proud parents of two small children—soon to be three!—and, after recently spending 6 months cruising around the country in an RV, have settled their family in Colorado Springs.
Any Marine will acknowledge the role of breath on the firing line. Elite operators cultivate an inner space that provides a margin of quiet against the battle raging just beyond the gates. This week, Jon Macaskill will help us find it.
