The guest speaker at this week’s RINGKNOCKER Virtual Meetup is Julia Ruddock (USMA ’07).
Hailing from Montego Bay, Jamaica, Julia is the Director of Career Services at West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG), the alumni association of the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. After graduating from the Academy with a major in General Engineering and Arabic, she served five years in combat engineering operations which culminated in her appointment as the Deputy Officer in Charge of the Army Corps of Engineers’ post-conflict reconstruction mission in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Having developed a knack and passion for managing joint civil-military partnerships in the Middle East and North Africa regions, Julia concurrently completed a Master of Arts degree in Diplomacy with her sights set on later returning as a Foreign Area Officer.
But life had other plans for Julia—plans that took her beyond uniformed service and into the boardrooms of mega banks and other industry leaders—to develop partnerships of a new kind.
Today, Julia consults with company leaders and talent management teams on strategies to attract, hire and retain West Point alumni for pretty much any operation across a wide variety of industries. With a focus on ensuring alignment at both the individual and systemic levels, she and her team have helped scores of companies hire hundreds of transitioning military and industry-experienced alumni into roles that are mostly never posted online. In less than two years since their 2019 launch, Julia’s WPAOG Career Services team became an award-winner that now provides thought leadership to peer institutions on how to enhance alumni career services programs that serve a diverse talent pool like the Long Gray Line.
Whether you are starting a new Veterans hiring program at your organization or need to diversify your leadership ranks with agile and collaborative utility players, plan to join this week’s RINGKNOCKER Virtual Meetup to learn how you can build your brand into a recognized mainstay of hiring transitioning and former military officers. Also join the discussion if you are transitioning out of the military for the first time or you’re not quite sure how to leverage your past military experience to pivot into a new role.
