RINGKNOCKER Virtual Meetup #72 with Julie Cane
Julie went to Navy Flight School during Operation Desert Storm and spent much of the next few years flying Navy SEALs around in the SH-3 Sea King helicopter. Her first civilian job was at SEI Investments, where she launched and marketed eleven new mutual funds and led the conversion of $500 million in common trust funds to private-label public mutual funds.
Julie resigned from SEI and the Navy Reserves in 1993 to attend the full time MBA program at UCLA, where she graduated in 1997. She climbed the strategy consulting ladder, stepping from Accenture to Autodesk to Wells Fargo and Charles Schwab. In addition to running Democracy Investments, Julie also chairs the board of nonprofit Swords to Plowshares, which supports 3,000+ veterans with housing, legal, and medical services.
Democracy Investments leverages the transformative power of the free market to incentivize democracy. This is a fascinating project, whose signature ETF (DMCY) gives investors the ability to vote with their wallets, shifting capital flows toward democratic countries and away from authoritarian regimes.
Since the last time Julie came to talk to us, she has taken flight again! Julie spent much of the last summer in the air supporting CalFire and the Army National Guard with ground operations for the Dixie Wildfire, during her activation to Emergency State Active Duty with the CA State Guard.
Socially responsible investing and some good-old-fashioned stick time: both elements of what promises to be a GREAT conversation. DON’T MISS THIS ONE!
