Rachael Jackson Connecting in the Real (RVM #48)
What sorts of moral obligations do we take on when we decide to run a social media platform?
Rachael Jackson (USMA '03) is CEO of REV, a community-first social platform bringing people together with inspiring stories and nurturing communities to create positive impact.
Rachael observes that, while we can't fix or reach everybody, REV is designed to be the anti-venom to existing social networks. Just like in the outside world, the qualities of an online community emerge through the setting of expectations by leaders of character who lead and lead well, coupled with a culture that values cohesion and connection over clicks and celebrity.

Rachael Jackson on Creating a Sense of Place (RVN #48)
How does a social media platform create a sense of "place"?
Rachael Jackson (USMA '03) is CEO of REV, a community-first social platform bringing people together with inspiring stories and nurturing communities to create positive impact.
While other platforms exist primarily to connect, Rachael says Rev's mission is to be leader-led, a curated experience with a high-quality newsfeed of stories produced and edited with due consideration for mission and values. In other words: a "well lit place" with an emphasis on hyper-local communities.

Rachael Jackson on a Structural Counterbalance to Extremism (RVM #48)
Rachael Jackson (USMA '03) is CEO of REV, a community-first social platform bringing people together with inspiring stories and nurturing communities to create positive impact.
Here Rachael responds to a tough question: how does REV differentiate from Apple, Reddit, Facebook, and other newsfeeds that deprecate critical thinking in favor of extremism? How does REV's design counterbalance current market offerings?
REV's solution is structural rather than technical. Deliberate, careful curation makes it easy for users to find relevant stories, help, and resources. A leader-led culture of mutual support encourages the production of more of what works. The result is empathy, acquired when we see things from another point of view.

Rachael Jackson on Social Media Problems & Solutions (RVM #48)
Rachael Jackson (USMA '03) is CEO of REV, a community-first social platform bringing people together with inspiring stories and nurturing communities to create positive impact.
Here Rachael discusses the problem REV set out to solve: despite ubiquitous social media, people struggle to find meaning in life:
- 89% of young Brits find life meaningless.
- 3/4 Americans describe themselves as very lonely or isolated.
- 30% of Millenials believe they have no "real" friends.
In the COVID era, a whopping 40% of Americans struggle with depresion, up from 11% only a year ago. In an environment that will continue to demand physical separation, there is a deep need for social platforms that actually deliver on the promise of real connection and community.

Rachael Jackson: Bucking the Trend at REV (RVM #48)
Rachael Jackson (USMA '03) is CEO of REV, a community-first social platform bringing people together with inspiring stories and nurturing communities to create positive impact.
Here Rachael discusses bucking the social-media trend of chasing the next shiny object, instead choosing to build a platform that emphasises quality over quantity, mentorship over virality, and meaningful relationships over superficial ones. REV leverages the power of storytelling to create a welcoming and inspiring place that is family- and faith-friendly, intended to showcase goodness and practical wisdom.
REV's goal is to acquire 60 million members in the next 10 years, with a whopping 10% serving as PLUS-ONEs, meaning that they make positive contributions both on platform and in real life.

Rachael Jackson Shares for Impact (RVM #48)
Rachael Jackson (USMA '03) is CEO of REV, a community-first social platform bringing people together with inspiring stories and nurturing communities to create positive impact.
Here Rachael discusses the role of REV within the context of PLUS-ONE thinking. Many leaders avoid what they rightly believe to be the morass of social media. Rachael encourages such leaders to understand that "going viral" is only the least positive outcome of social-media sharing. One could also share to make an impact.
