The REAL Power of the Network

This is a developing story, but so cool I just had to share it.

I have close friends here on Bali, an older couple who have lived here for years, who recently returned to the States in a horrible rush because B has developed what we now know to be stage 4 lung cancer. It’s not a good prognosis.

His life partner, K, is in her late 60s and is just a fabulous human being: a powerhouse indy fashion designer who was fronting a punk rock band when I was in diapers. And for the past few weeks K has been cooling her heels in an AirBnb someplace in Seattle… she can hardly visit B in the hospital due to COVID rules, she doesn’t know a soul in Seattle, and the poor lady is just losing her mind.

So I’m reaching out to a few people, in the RINGKNOCKER network and beyond, to see if anybody would like to pick K up one day and take her to lunch. A couple of hours with a friendly face would do her a world of good!

I had a small handful of volunteers in less than a day. All of them are former military officers, and every one of them replied with a version of the same phrase: it would be my privilege to serve. Every one of them also politely but firmly refused my offer to pick up lunch.

If you’re reading this and are one of those people, you know who you are and you know the extreme value you have delivered just by OFFERING to help a very real damsel in distress. I mean, just… thank you. Probably also worth mentioning that every person who has so far offered to help is ALSO a damsel, which I think rates an extra fist-bump. 👊

I sincerely love you people.
